Bartleby Magazine Sales Brochure

Florczak Media Group, Inc - February 24, 2012

I was at this time a 25 year-old substitute teacher and freelance writer, living in my parents' house. I had $2,000 in my pocket, and an idea to start a publishing company. I was looking for a way to position, brand, and grow my fledgeling magazine in an advertising marketplace saturated with coupon clippers, money mailers, and local papers - in the midst of a recession that hit my target market, small businesses, the hardest. I was asking these already struggling business owners for hundreds of dollars to advertise in a magazine that they had never seen or heard of before, and they had no idea if they would ever see a return on their profit.

After nearly two years in business, I had built up to a 76-page, perfect bound, color magazine that carried 50 advertisements, of which 10,000 issues were printed and distributed across 23 towns in Du Page county.

This sales brochure has seen many forms and advertised many prices, but the basic message was always the same. As you read it, write down which of your sensibilities it appeals to, as it was one of my most effective selling tools.
